Fit the engine and mounting plate onto the assembly stand. | | -
Preparations - Detach the oil dipstick and oil dipstick tube.
- Detach the oil filter using a strap wrench.

Remove the adaptor plate. | | -
Lock the crankshaft by inserting the special tool in the flywheel. | | -
Remove the crankshaft pulley. | | -
Detach the crankcase ventilation hose. - Unscrew and remove the oil pressure switch.

Remove the oil pressure switch. | | -
Detach the multiplug for the camshaft position sensor (CMP sensor). | | -
Detach the timing belt cover (two parts). | | -
Detach the timing belt and the timing belt tensioner. - Slacken the bolts of the timing belt tensioner.
- Press the timing belt tensioner all the way to the left.
- Remove the timing belt.
- Detach the timing belt tensioner.

Remove the inlet manifold. | | -
Detach the exhaust manifold. | | -
Remove the cylinder head cover. - Disconnect the hose from the oil separator.
- Remove the reinforcing panels.

Remove the cylinder head. - Slacken the cylinder head bolts in the indicated order and remove them.
- Remove the cylinder head.

Remove the cylinder head gasket and the two guide sleeves. | | -
NOTE:Slacken all the bolts of the clutch pressure plate evenly. Dismantle the clutch. | | -
Detach the crankshaft position sensor (CKP sensor). | | -
NOTE:Mark the installation position. Remove the flywheel. | | -
NOTE:Remove the bolts in the specified sequence. NOTE:Remove the sump downwards so that no oil sludge or residues enter the engine. Detach the sump. | | -
Detach the sump (continued). | | -
Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal. - Special tool
- Radial oil seal

Detach the crankshaft oil seal carrier. | | -
Detach the bracket of the CKP sensor. | | -
Remove the oil baffle plate. | | -
Detach the crankshaft timing belt pulley. - Remove the thrust washer.

Turn the cylinder block through 1805. | | -
Remove the crankshaft front oil seal. | | -
Remove the oil pump with the oil intake pipe. - Detach the oil intake pipe bracket.
- Remove the oil pump.

CAUTION:Remove the carbon deposits using a plastic scraper. Do not damage the piston ring contact surfaces. Remove the ring of carbon from the top edge of the cylinder. - Set the piston to the half stroke position.
- Carefully remove the ring of carbon using a suitable scraper.

NOTE:Keep the big-end bearing shells in order for reuse. Remove the pistons and connecting rods. - Detach the big-end bearing caps.
- Push the pistons, connecting rods and bearing shells out of the cylinder block.

NOTE:Keep the main bearing shells in order for reuse. Keep the centre main bearing together with its thrust rings. Remove the crankshaft. - Detach the main bearing caps.
- Lift the crankshaft out of the cylinder block.

NOTE:Keep the main bearing shells in order for reuse. Remove the main bearing shells and the thrust half rings. | | -
Remove all the blanking plugs and covers. - Clean all the oil passages thoroughly.
