Removal and Installation

Removal

WARNING:
WARNING:This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for fuel spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING:
WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Disconnect the air cleaner outlet pipe.

  1. Remove the air cleaner cover.
    1. Detach the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.
    1. Remove the air cleaner cover.

  1. Detach the fuel lines.

  1. Disconnect the four fuel injector electrical connectors.

  1. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line.

  1. Disconnect the fuel supply line. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.

  1. Disconnect the fuel return line. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.

  1. Remove the fuel supply manifold.

  1. Remove the fuel injectors.
    1. Lift the retaining clip.
    1. Slide the retaining clip.
    1. Remove the fuel injectors.

  1. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.

Installation

    WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not use silicone grease to lubricate the O-ring seals as it will result in engine damage.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. It may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn its adaptive strategy.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new O-ring seals.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil to aid installation.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
