In-vehicle Repair

Removal

WARNING:
WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00A Fuel System - General Information / 310-00B Fuel System - General Information / 310-00C Fuel System - General Information.

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum line from the intake manifold.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the valve cover.

  1. Detach the power steering pump reservoir and position it to one side.

  1. Detach the accelerator cable.
    1. Remove the retaining clip and disconnect the inner cable from the throttle plate lever.
    1. Rotate the outer cable.
    1. Disconnect the accelerator cable.

  1. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
CAUTION:
CAUTION:Do not attempt to clean the throttle body. The bore and the throttle plate have a special coating applied during manufacture which should not be removed.

  1. Remove the throttle body.

  1. Remove and discard the throttle body gasket.

  1. Disconnect the gas hose from the gas supply manifold.

  1. Remove the fuel supply line and the fuel return line.

  1. Remove the camshaft position (CMP) sensor.

  1. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) electrical connector and detach the connector from the bracket.

  1. Disconnect the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor electrical connector and detach it from the intake manifold stud.

  1. Disconnect the evaporative emission canister purge valve electrical connector.

  1. Remove the evaporative emission canister purge valve and position it to one side.

  1. Disconnect the gas injection valve distribution connector.

  1. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the intake manifold.

  1. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the PCV tube.

  1. Remove the intake manifold (engine shown removed for clarity).
    1. Remove the nut and stud.
    1. Remove the nuts and bolts.

Installation

All vehicles

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not attempt to clean the throttle body. The bore and the throttle plate have a special coating applied during manufacture which should not be removed.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Clean and inspect the intake manifold gasket. Install a new intake manifold gasket if necessary.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Initialize the door window motors. For additional information, refer to Section  501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms.
