CAUTION:Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 20 degrees, the outer joint must not be bent more than 50 degrees. NOTE:Shift the transaxle into first gear. Detach the halfshaft from the center bearing carrier and secure it to one side. | | -
Remove the center bearing carrier. | | -
Remove the transaxle output drive flange and the compression spring. | | -
Using the special tool, remove the halfshaft oil seal. - Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

NOTE:Apply half of the area between the inner and outer sealing ring lip with grease (VW G 052 128 A1). Using the special tool, install the halfshaft oil seal. | | -
Install the compression spring and the transaxle output drive flange. | | -
NOTE:Lubricate the splines of the intermediate shaft with grease (VW G 052 738 A2). Install the center bearing carrier. | | -
CAUTION:Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 20 degrees, the outer joint must not be bent more than 50 degrees. Attach the halfshaft to the center bearing carrier. | | -
NOTE:Install a new transaxle level plug. With the vehicle on a level surface fill the transaxle until the oil level is just below the bottom of the filler hole. | | |
