Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Lever, Wheel Knuckle

Removal

  1. Loosen the wheel nuts.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.
  1. Remove the wheel.

  1. Detach the flexible brake hose from the suspension strut.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Secure the brake caliper out of the way to prevent damage to the flexible brake hose.
    Detach the brake caliper and anchor plate.

  1. Remove the lower arm to wheel knuckle pinch bolt and nut.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage.
    Remove the lower arm from the wheel knuckle.
    • Remove the heat shield.

  1. Remove the suspension strut to wheel knuckle pinch bolt and nut.

  1. Using the special tool, detach the wheel knuckle from the suspension strut.
    1. Insert the special tool and rotate through 90 degrees.
    1. Detach the wheel knuckle.

  1. Remove the strut and spring assembly.
    1. Prevent the piston rod from rotating using an Allen key.
    1. Remove the strut and spring assembly.
    1. Remove the top mount insulator.

Installation

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the heatshield is installed to prevent damage to the ball joint.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
