Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Expander, Teflon Seal

Removal

Vehicles built up to 02/2000

  1. Remove the accessory drive belt upper guard.
    1. Disconnect the high-pressure line.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    1. Remove the accessory drive belt upper guard.
Vehicles built 02/2000 onwards

  1. Remove the accessory drive belt upper guard.
    1. Disconnect the high-pressure hose.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    1. Remove the accessory belt upper guard.
All Vehicles

  1. Remove the accessory drive belt.
    1. Slacken the belt tensioner pulley center bolt.
    1. Slacken the adjusting bolt.
    1. Remove the accessory drive belt.

  1. Remove the power steering pump pulley.

  1. Disconnect the power steering pump low-pressure hose.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Remove the power steering pump.
Vehicles built up to 02/2000

  1. Remove the power steering pump high-pressure line.

Installation

Vehicles built up to 02/2000

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Check the O-ring seal for damage, install a new O-ring as necessary.
    Using the special tool, install a new O-ring seal.
    1. Push the O-ring seal onto the special tool.
    1. Locate the tool over the union and push on the O-ring seal.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When installing a new power steering pump with an old high-pressure line, remove the connector from the pump and discard. Screw in the connector trapped on the pipe end.
    Connect the power steering pump high-pressure line.
All Vehicles

  1. Install the power steering pump.

  1. Connect the power steering pump low-pressure hose.

  1. Install the power steering pump pulley.

  1. Install the accessory drive belt.
    1. Position the belt around the pulleys.
    1. Tension the belt with the adjusting bolt, finger deflection 1 mm to 3 mm (used belt), 1 mm to 2 mm (new belt).
    1. Tighten the belt tensioner pulley center bolt.
Vehicles built up to 02/2000

  1. Install the accessory drive belt upper guard.
    1. Install the bolts.
    1. Connect the high-pressure line.
Vehicles built 02/2000 onwards

  1. Install the accessory drive belt upper guard.
    1. Install the bolts.
    1. Connect the high-pressure line.
All Vehicles
  1. Fill and bleed the steering system. For additional information, refer to Section  211-00 Steering System - General Information.
