Alignment: Service Precautions

DISARMING

1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Allow at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete.
2. Remove four nut and washer assemblies retaining driver's air bag module to steering wheel.
3. Disconnect driver's air bag module connector.
4. Connect Rotunda Air Bag Simulator 105-00009, or equivalent, to vehicle air bag wiring harness at top steering column.
5. Remove passenger's air bag module as follows:

a. Disconnect two passenger's air bag diagnostic module connectors under lefthand instrument panel pad.
b. Open glove compartment door, then press in sides to disengage retainers and lower glove compartment from instrument panel, then remove

screws and glove compartment from vehicle.

c. Remove screws from glove compartment upper cover, then remove upper cover and disconnect passenger's air bag module electrical

connectors.

d. Remove passenger's air bag module bolts, then remove module from vehicle by pressing outward from inside instrument panel. Do not pull on

wiring during removal or handling of air bag module. Place module on a bench with trim cover facing upward to avoid injury by accidental
deployment.

e. Connect a second air bag simulator, or equivalent, to passenger's air bag harness.

6. Connect battery ground cable.

ARMING

1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Allow one minute for back-up power supply to deplete.
2. Remove air bag simulator from harness on top of steering column.
3. Connect driver's air bag connector.
4. Position driver's air bag on steering wheel and secure with four nut and bolt assemblies.
5. Disconnect passenger's air bag simulator from passenger's air bag harness.
6. Install passenger's air bag module as follows:

a. Insert air bag module into instrument panel, aligning guide pins with guide holes, then engage module tab with instrument panel clip. 

CAUTION:  Ensure wiring in not pinched between air bag module and instrument panel.

b. Install air bag module bolts. Connect air bag module electrical connectors securely.
c. Insert connector pin into hole on rear of air bag module.
d. Install glove compartment upper cover, then the glove compartment.
e. Connect two diagnostic module connectors.

7. Connect battery ground cable.
8. Place ignition switch in RUN position and note air bag warning lamp operation. Indicator lamp should illuminate for approximately six seconds,

then turn OFF.
