Ball Joint: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
NOTE: The Special Service Tools (SSTs) required to complete this job are a J 9519-E ball joint remover and installer set, and a J 23742 ball joint
separator.
1. Raise the vehicle and support the frame with safety stands then remove the tire and wheel assembly by placing a floor jack under the control arm
spring seat and raise it until it supports the control arm.
CAUTION: Floor jack must remain under the control arm spring seat during removal and installation to retain the spring and control arm in
position. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
2. Remove the brake caliper and suitably support it to prevent damage to the brake hose.
3. Remove the cotter pin and the nut by using the J 23742 tool to break the ball joint loose from the knuckle.
