3. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply small amount of clean engine oil to lip of new oil seal.
b. Push oil seal slightly in by hand. The oil seal must be tapped in until it is flush with the edge of the rear cover.
c. Tap oil seal in evenly with suitable pipe and hammer. The oil seal outer diameter should be 3.94 inches.
d. On models with manual transaxles, remove sealant from flywheel bolt holes in crankshaft and from flywheel bolts. If all previous sealant
cannot be removed from a bolt, replace the bolt. Do not apply sealant if new bolt is used.
e. Secure flywheel and tighten bolts to specifications in two or three steps in sequence shown in Fig. 23.
f.
On models with automatic transaxle, remove sealant from driveplate bolt holes in crankshaft and from driveplate bolts. If all previous
sealant cannot be removed from a bolt, replace the bolt. Do not apply sealant if new bolt is used.
g. Install adapter, driveplate, and backing plate onto crankshaft. Tighten bolts to specifications in two or three steps in sequence shown in Fig.
23.
