Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair
NOTE: On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove front oil seal in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 16, noting the following:
a. Secure timing belt pulley with pulley tool Nos. 0K130 111 003 and 0K130 111 004, or equivalents, and loosen pulley lock bolt.
b. If necessary remove pulley using a steering wheel puller.
c. Remove pulley Woodruff key.
d. Cut oil seal lip with razor knife and remove a with screwdriver protected by a rag.
3. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply small amount of clean engine oil to the lip of new oil seal.
b. Push oil seal slightly in by hand. The oil seal must be tapped in until it is flush with edge of oil pump body.
c. Tap oil seal in evenly with suitable pipe and hammer. The oil seal diameter should be 1.73 inches.
d. Install timing belt pulley.
e. Install pulley Woodruff key with tapered side toward oil pump body.
f.
Install pulley lock bolt and tighten to specifications.
g. Start engine and check ignition timing.
