Only after the airbags, side airbags or pre-tensioners have been
deployed can they be discarded. Dispose of the complete airbag.
No part of it can be reused. Place it in a sturdy plastic bag and seal
it securely.
In Case Airbags Cannot Be Deployed:
An undeployed airbag contains an inflator which must be treated
as a hazardous waste product and disposed of accordingly.
Undeployed airbags may not simply be added to trash or taken to
a dump because of the risk of inadvertent deployment and injury to
vehicle dismantlers, recyclers or waste disposal personnel.
If you are unable to deploy the airbag or pre-tensioner, first create
a short circuit by connecting together the two airbag inflator terminals or wires.
Package the airbag in exactly the same packing that the new replacement part comes in.
Dispose of in accordance with applicable local, State and Federal regulations. Recycling is recommended. Due to variations in local laws and
regulations, as well as in the identification of local hazardous waste disposal facilities, it is important that you consult with a hazardous waste disposal
expert or legal counsel.
