Speedometer Gear: Service and Repair
SPEEDOMETER GEAR
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Raise the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
3. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor connector.
4. Remove one bolt from the speedometer gear and pull the unit straight out from the transfer case assembly.
Inspection
1. Inspect the gear for excessive wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
Installation
1. Install a new O-ring on the speedometer gear.
2. Reinstall the speedometer gear in the transfer case assembly and install the bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
3. Reconnect the vehicle speed sensor connector.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
