OIL SEAL ON CRANKSHAFT

The front crankshaft oil seal takes the form of an o-ring on the front engine cover (oil pump casing).

The rear crankshaft seal takes the form of an o-ring fitted in the rear cover.

Function

This is a structural part of the engine that performs a mechanical role as well as containing the engine oil because it is directly connected to the intermediate shaft mount.

Type

The oil sump is in aluminium alloy and contains special partitions that prevent the engine oil slopping around too much when the pump could end up drawing in air.

A reinforcement plate fitted in the lower part of the sump near the splines for housing the front exhaust pipe section contains the exhaust pipe in the case of violent impact.

This a structural part of the engine with mechanical functions as well as containing the engine oil because it is directly connected to the intermediate shaft support.

Type

The oil sump is made from aluminium alloy and contains special partitions that prevent the engine oil from moving around too much which would have an adverse effect on the pump.

There is a reinforcement plate fitted in the lower part of the sump by the splining housing the front section of the exhaust pipe which is designed to restrain the exhaust pipe in the case of sudden impacts.
