DESCRIPTION
A whistle or hiss noise heard from the valve body area during idle may occur on some vehicles equipped with 4R44E or 5R55E transmissions. This noise
is caused by fluid cavitation in the valve body or separator plate. A modified valve body and separator plate are available to reduce this concern.
Customers complaining of this noise should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, repaired according to this bulletin.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify the concern.
NOTE:
Some hydraulic noise from the transmission is normal. To confirm a customer's concern, compare their vehicle with a good known vehicle at
the dealership.
2.
Perform normal diagnostics according to the workshop manual including line pressure tests and checking ATF level and condition.
3.
If noise is still present, remove the valve body assembly and repair as follows:
* 1997 B2300 ONLY: Inspect the valve body ID number to determine if the valve body assembly or separator plate replacement is necessary.
Refer to illustration.
If the valve body has ID number D3A9A, replace the complete valve body with modified part. Refer to Parts Information.
If the valve body does not have ID number D3A9A, replace the separator plate.
* ALL OTHER APPLICABLE MODELS: Replace the separator plate with the modified part. Refer to Parts Information.
4.
Verify the repair.
