SLIP YOKE DISASSEMBLY

Place driveshaft on a suitable workbench, using care not to damage drive shaft tube.
CAUTION:
DO NOT, under any circumstance, clamp the driveshaft in the jaws of a vise or similar holding fixture. Denting or localizing fracture can
result, causing driveshaft failure during vehicle operation.

Mark the driveshaft and slip yoke on both sides of the boot as shown.
8.
Mark the locations of the slip yoke boot clamp crimps. These will be placed in the same position during installation of new clamps.
9.
Cut off the slip yoke boot clamps.
10.
Remove slip yoke from drive shaft.
11.
Remove and clean slip yoke boot, ensuring all grease and dirt are removed. Inspect boot for damage.
12.
Inspect slip yoke lubricant for contamination. If contaminated, inspect driveshaft and slip yoke splines for wear.
13.
Clean grease and dirt from driveshaft and slip yoke splines using a non-metallic brush and solvent. Use compressed air to dry all solvent from
driveshaft and slip yoke splines before assembly.
SLIP YOKE ASSEMBLY

Install slip yoke boot onto driveshaft, small opening end first.
15.
Install smaller slip yoke boot clamp on driveshaft. Using a keystone clamp installer (SST 211 - 002) or aftermarket equivalent, crimp slip yoke
boot clamp at same position as when removed.
16.
Pull boot toward driveshaft to expose splines. Liberally apply new grease to driveshaft and slip yoke splines.
17.
Install larger slip yoke boot clamp on slip yoke end of slip yoke boot. DO NOT crimp at this time.
18.
Align mark on slip yoke to mark on driveshaft and install slip yoke onto driveshaft.
19.
Setting slip yoke boot free length:
a.
Remove excess grease from slip yoke boot, slip yoke and driveshaft surfaces.
b.
Position slip yoke boot into groove on slip yoke.
