Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Strut Assembly

Fig. 5  Front Suspension

1.

Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel.

2.

Disconnect caliper without removing brake hose. Suspend from frame with wire.

3.

Remove tie rod ball joint.

4.

Disconnect stabilizer bar link.

5.

Remove pivot from transverse control arm (3), Fig. 5, by tapping until splined part is disengaged.

6.

Remove nut securing front arm (4), Fig. 5, to transverse control arm.

7.

Place a jack under wheel hub.

8.

Remove three bolts securing strut to tower.

9.

Lower jack while guiding strut from vehicle.

10.

Reverse procedure to install. Tighten following components to specifications:
a. Strut assembly to tower.
b. Tie rod end.
c. Brake caliper bolts.
d. Wheel nuts.

11.

With vehicle resting on suspension, tighten following components to specifications:
a. Transverse control arm pivot.
b. Stabilizer bar link.
c. Front arm to control arm nut.
