Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair

CAUTION: Do not clamp the shock absorber in a vise by the body of the shock absorber. The shock absorber must be clamped in the vise using the
lower mounting eye of the shock absorber.
DISASSEMBLE
1. Install the shock absorber vertically in a vise, using the lower isolator bushing of the shock absorber.
2. Mark the coil spring and the shock absorber right or left, according to which side of the vehicle the shock absorber was removed from, and which
shock absorber the coil spring was removed from.
WARNING: When compressing the coil spring for removal from shock absorber, the first full top and bottom coil of the coil spring must
be captured by the jaws of the coil spring compressor.
3. Compress shock absorber coil spring using Professional Services Equipment Spring Compressor GP-2020-C3.5 or an equivalent. Install an A-20
spring shoe on the top and bottom of the spring compressor.
