Hydraulic chain tensioners were introduced with the start of production for the 1984 Model Year. These new chain tensioners may be retrofit to all 1968
and later 911 vehicles by using the following conversion kits:

Installation procedure
Note
The procedure for installing hydraulic chain tensioners is the same as for replacing the nonhydraulic version.

remove timing case covers -install new hydraulic tensioners in place of original tensioners
CAUTION
The replacement tensioner piston is locked in pressed position with a pin. Remove this pin after installing tensioner.
Note
