Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

Removing and installing steering wheel 

Caution!  Observe safety regulations for handling airbag modules! 

Removing 
1. Disconnect battery.

2. Remove steering wheel airbag unit.
3. Turn wheels to straight-ahead position. Before removing steering wheel, put a mark on steering wheel and steering column (e.g. colour marking)

(centring of airbag spiral spring).

4. Remove steering wheel by releasing multiple-tooth screw.

Installing 
Installation of steering wheel takes place in reverse order.

Note!

The steering wheel consists of a magnesium alloy! The tightening torques must be observed!

Wheels straight ahead and observe previously-applied marking!

Airbag unit must lock with an audible click! Check by pulling at airbag unit! Always replace multiple-tooth screw!

Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) ± 6 Nm (4.5 ft. lbs.)
