Automatic Transmission Indicator (for vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox only) The automatic transmission indicator consists of an internal control/dimming circuit and a light bulb to indicate each gear position. Voltage is fed to the internal control/dimming circuit (inside instrument pack) on a Y wire from fuse 8 in the passenger compartment fusebox. A "lights ON" input is also fed to the control/dimming circuit on a R/B wire. The control/dimming circuit then provides each light bulb with the correct voltage. Earth is provided to every bulb, except the D4 bulb, by the automatic inhibitor switch on B/U, W, R, G, U, and N wires. Earth to the D4 indicator is provided by a control circuit. The transmission control module sends an input to the control circuit on a U/R wire when the gearbox is in the D4 position. The control circuit then provides earth to the D4 indicator.
NOTE: Not all the above warning lamps will necessarily be fitted to the vehicle.
Panel illumination
To ensure an even spread of light for panel illumination, six bulbs are used, four in the back and two on the top. When the sidelights are switched ON, a variable voltage according to the setting of the instrument panel rheostat, is provided to the panel lamps on the R/B wires. The earth return paths are provided on R wires through the instrument panel rheostat.
