FAULT: Airbag SRS warning light does not illuminate when starter switch is turned to position 'II'.

ALWAYS follow the following precautions before fault finding on the SRS system:

  • Remove key from starter switch and disconnect both battery leads, earth lead first.
  • Wait 10 minutes to allow the SRS back – up circuit to fully discharge.
  • Only use a digital circuit tester to check the system. The use of an analogue circuit tester may cause accidental deployment of the airbag resulting in possible injury.
  • Carry out the full fault finding procedure before powering up the system.
TEST PROCEDURE ACTION
Remove passenger compartment fuse box cover
1 Has the 10 amp SRS fuse in fuseblock 3 blown ? YES Renew fuse, then continue with procedure.

CAUTION: No attempt to modify or repair the SRS harness should be made.
Go to System check.
NO Continue with procedure.
If the harness shows no visual signs of damage disconnect it from the passenger compartment fuse box and slip ring.
Using a digital circuit tester check the continuity of the harness wires between the terminals of connectors, refer to the Circuit diagram in this section.
4 Does the harness have any breaks or shorts in it ? YES Renew SRS harness, see Airbag SRS harness.
CAUTION: No attempt to modify or repair the SRS harness should be made.
Go to System check.
NO Continue with procedure.
Remove drivers airbag module, see Drivers airbag module.
5 Is the SRS warning light correctly seated in its aperture in the steering wheel ? YES Continue with procedure.
