Installing gearbox
Installing gearbox
Install in reverse order of removal. During this step, observe the following:
–  All threaded holes into which self-locking bolts are to be screwed must be cleaned of residual locking fluid using a thread chaser.
–  Always renew self-locking bolts and nuts.
–  Install torque converter.
   
The converter is correctly installed when the value of dimension -a- between screw flange of gearbox housing and contact surface of stud bolts of torque converter is
t  21 mm in 4-cylinder engines
t  17 mm in 6-cylinder engines
–  It is essential to make sure that dimension -a- is maintained during further assembly. The converter is not allowed to slip forwards.
–  Before installing, ensure that dowel sleeves are correctly located.

–  Install new hexagon bolts -arrows A- for left assembly mounting -2- in console -1-.
–  Tighten new hexagon nut -arrow B-.
  Caution
Do not remove support bracket -10 - 222 A- until all bolts securing the left assembly mounting have been tightened to specified torque.
  Note!
Comply with the dismantling and assembling procedure when fitting the selector lever cable onto the gearbox.

–  First press selector lever cable -1- onto selector shaft lever -2- using a pair of pliers -arrow A-.
–  Now fit selector cable support bracket onto gearbox.
  N37-0856
–  Pin -1- of selector cable support bracket must engage in hole -2- of gearbox.
–  After installing gearbox, check ATF level and top up → Chapter.
–  Code radio → Radio, telephone, navigation; Rep. Gr.91.
–  Initialise electric windows and set clock → Booklet10.1.
–  Carry out self-diagnosis and initiate basic setting.
If vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- or vehicle diagnosis and service information system -VAS 5052- is used for basic setting, perform basic setting only in guided fault finding.
