Removing and installing front right flange shaft and bevel gear input shaft oil seals > < Dismantling and assembling rear final drive
Automatic gearbox 099 four-wheel drive
Adjusting bevel gear and shaft bevel gear (gear set)
Determining shaft bevel gear installation position (actual measurement)

This work sequence need only be carried out when the dimension "r" is not given on bevel gear and components that directly affect the shaft bevel gear installation position are renewed.

These are:

Both shaft bevel gear taper roller bearings, pinion housing and final drive housing.

  • ‒ Remove input shaft bevel gear and differential.
  • ‒ Assemble universal mandrel as described on page 39-201, insert in rear axle housing and measure difference to "Ro" (Read off and note max. deflection/return point on red figure range). The measured value equates to dimension "r".
  • ‒ After exchanging components adjust shaft bevel gear as described on page 39-197. The determined measurement "r" is to be used when determining shim "S3".
