Checking function of viscous coupling
Checking function of viscous coupling
  • ‒ Drive vehicle front wheels onto rolling road.
Warning!
Ensure area in front of vehicle is kept free. Carry out test with care to avoid damage.
  • ‒ Select "D" and slowly start driving.
  • ● If the vehicle is pushed off the rolling road test stand at between 1500 to 2500 rpm, then the viscous coupling is OK.

When driving the front wheels whilst the rear wheels are stationary the viscous coupling will lock-up. This means that the rear wheels are then driven.

The viscous coupling will accept differing speeds for a short period without locking-up, when 1st gear is engaged and engine speed is slightly above idling speed.
