Checking selector mechanism
Checking selector mechanism
t  If the selector lever is in the positions „S“, „D“ or „R“ or even in the Tiptronic track, the starter motor normally cannot be activated
t  At speeds above 5 km/h, when the selector lever is in the position „N“, the selector lever locking electro-magnet should not engage. The selector lever can be shifted into a driving gear.
t  When travelling at speeds below 5 km/h (almost stationary) and shifting into selector lever position „N“, the solenoid for the selector lever lock must engage after approx. 1 second. The selector lever can only be switched from position „N“ when the brake pedal is pressed.
Selector lever in „P“, selector lever button pressed and ignition is on:
l  When the brake is not pressed:
If the button is kept pressed in, the selector lever remains locked and can not be taken out of position „P“. Solenoid for selector lever lock blocks selector lever.
l  When the brake is pressed:
The electromagnet releases the gear selector lever. It is possible to select a gear. Starting from position „P“ positions „R, N, D, S“ should now be engaged slowly and consecutively, checking during the operation whether the position shown on the instrument panel coincides with the position of the selector lever.
Selector lever in „N“, selector lever button pressed and ignition is on:
l  When the brake is not pressed:
The gear selection lever is secured and cannot move from „N“ position. Solenoid for selector lever lock blocks selector lever.
l  When the brake is pressed:
The electromagnet releases the gear selector lever. It is possible to select a gear.
  Note
When the brake pedal is depressed it is also possible to shift from „N“ to „D“ without pressing the selector lever button. However to shift from „N“ to „R“ it is also necessary to press the selector lever button.
Selector lever in „D“ and ignition on:
The selector lever is locked and it is not possible to shift from „D“ to „S“.
l  Press the selector lever button:
The selector lever is released and it is possible to shift from „D“ to „S“.
Selector lever in position „D“, ignition and lights switched on:
l  Move the selector lever to the Tiptronic track:
The illuminated „D“ symbol in the selector lever position display should go out and the „+“ and „–“ symbols should light up.
The gear selector lever position indication on the instrument panel should go from „PRNDS“ to „654321“, when the gear selector lever is placed in the Tiptronic mode.
l  Move the selector lever in the tiptronic gate to „+“ and „–“.
When you move the selector lever to „+“ or „–“, the display „654321“ in the instrument cluster should move one gear up or down accordingly.
–  Adjust selector lever cable → Chapter.
–  Check the ignition key removal lock → Chapter.
