Climate control: Deactivating and preparing
–  Remove climate control → Chapter.
–  Remove the electrical components of the climate control unit → Chapter.
   
1 - Air distributor housing for air conditioning
q   Do not dismantle further
q   For those vehicles without an Additional heating element -Z35- the opening for the Additional heating element -Z35- is covered by the heat exchanger cover
q   Lightly grease the support points and the temperature flap guides (for example using G 052 745 A3).
q   Different versions in vehicles with manual and automatic climate control → Parts catalogue
q   The air distribution casing in vehicles with manual climate control has gears with a cam disk for operating the air distribution flaps. Do not disconnect these gears as the adjustment cannot be reset.
  Note
t  Vehicles with manual climate control have the air distribution flaps operated manually via a flexible shaft. Vehicles with automatic climate control have air distribution flaps operated by servomotors.
t  Vehicles with manual climate control have temperature flaps (right and left temperature flaps) connected to each other by an axle; they are operated by a servomotor. Vehicles with automatic climate control have left and right temperature flaps operated by independent servomotors.

3 - Air duct to the air vent in the left foot well
q   Version “Climate control”
4 - Heating system heat exchanger
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
5 - Sealing ring
q   Replace
q   Lightly moisten with liquid coolant and fit correctly into place → Chapter
6 - Clip
q   Replace
q   Ensure that it is properly seated
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
7 - Bolt
q   Tightening torque: 2.5 Nm
8 - Coolant tubes
q   Remove and fit on the heat exchanger → Chapter
9 - Sponge material spacer
q   Fitted between the grommet and the air conditioning unit
10 - Grommet
q   Before fitting the climate control unit, fit this in the transversal panel of the vehicle → Chapter
q   Fitting → Chapter
11 - O-ring
q   Replace → Chapter
q   Allocation → Parts catalogue
12 - O-ring
q   Replace → Chapter
q   Allocation → Parts catalogue
13 - Expansion valve
q   Removing and refitting the refrigerant tubes → Chapter
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
14 - Bolt
q   Tightening torque: 10 Nm
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
15 - Evaporator housing
q   Deactivating and preparing → Chapter
16 - Dust and pollen filter
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Observe replacement intervals → Booklet
17 - Cover for the dust and pollen filter
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
18 - Air duct to the air vent in the right foot well
q   Version “Climate control”
19 - Plug
q   Only fitted to vehicles without air duct to rear vent of the centre console
