Ignition system: repairing → Chapter
  Note!
t  The control unit for the fuel injection and ignition system is equipped with self-diagnosis. Before carrying out repairs and fault finding, the fault memory must be first interrogated. Also check vacuum hoses and connecting pipes (unmetered air).
t  Components marked with * can be checked with the auto-diagnosis → Chapter, Fault memory: interrogating and erasing.
t  For trouble-free operation of the electrical components, a voltage of at least 11.5 V is necessary.
t  When the control unit is separated from the current supply, the learnt values are also erased, which can cause slight misfiring in engine running until the control unit learns all the values again.
t  If after fault finding, repairs or component tests, the engine starts, runs for a short period and then stops, it could be that the immobiliser is blocking the engine control unit. In such a case, interrogate the fault memory, and, if necessary, adapt the control unit accordingly → Chapter.
t  Do not use sealants containing silicone. Particles of silicone drawn into the engine, will not be burnt in the engine and damage the Lambda probe.
t  During some checks it is possible that the control unit will recognise and store a fault. For this reason, the fault memory should be interrogated after completing all checks and repairs, and, if necessary, erased → Chapter, Fault memory: interrogating and erasing.
t  Always replace clamp-type clips with screw-type clips.
Safety precautions → Chapter.
Rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
Technical data → Chapter.
Checking intake system for leaks (secondary air) → Chapter.
