Checking compression pressure
   
Checking compression pressure
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spark plug key -T20028-
t  Compression tester -V.A.G 1381- or -V.A.G 1763-
t  Torque wrench -SAT 8010-

Prerequisites
l  Engine oil temperature must be at least 30 °C.
Work sequence
–  First remove ignition/HT. wiring cover.
–  Then pull off spark plug connectors and remove spark plugs using spark plug key -T20028-.
–  Pull connector off ignition distributor for Hall sender.
–  Use assistance of a second mechanic to depress accelerator fully.
–  Check compression pressures using tester -V.A.G 1381- or -V.A.G 1763-.
  Note!
See respective operating instructions for description of how to use tester.
–  Operate starter motor until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression pressure values:
   New: 10…15
   Wear limit: 7 bar
Permissible difference between all cylinders: 3 bar
–  Fit spark plugs with spark plug key -T20028- and tighten to 30 Nm.
–  Interrogate fault memory → Chapter
