t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor. t  Electric drill with plastic brush attachment t  Protective glasses t  Sealant for joints → Spare parts catalogue Removing l  Gearbox removed. –  Remove the dual mass flywheel → Chapter.

–  Separate intermediate plate at sealing flange and fitted sleeves -Arrows-.

–  Extract bolts -1... 8-. –  Pull off sealing flange (rear).

Installing   Note Lie a cloth over the open part of the oil sump. –  Remove sealant residue on cylinder block and on oil sump carefully. –  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease. –  Cut off the tube nozzle on the front marking (diameter of the nozzle approximately. 2 mm).

–  Apply a thin bead of sealant at the edge of the joint between the cylinder block and the sump -arrows-.

–  Coat the lower sealing surface on the sealing flange lightly with sealant -hatched area-.   Note The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes after applying sealant.

–  Fit onto the crankshaft, sliding the sealing flange -2- together with the guide sleeve -1- (inserted in replacement part). –  Push the sealing flange carefully onto the dowel sleeves on the cylinder block.

–  Tighten bolts in the following sequence: 1.  Tighten the bolts -1 … 6-. 2.  Tighten bolts -7- and -8-

The remaining installation steps are carried out in reverse sequence - note the following points: –  Hook intermediate plate on sealing flange, and press onto dowel sleeves -arrows-. –  Install the dual mass flywheel → Chapter. Tightening torques
