Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.
Removing
  W00-0427
–  Detach vent hose -2- leading to exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18-.
–  Disconnect the hose -4- from the crankshaft sump breather on the air duct.
–  Remove air pipe from -1- and -3-.
–  Unplug electrical connector -3- at exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18-.
–  Unscrew bolts -1- and -4-.

–  Detach exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18-.
  Note
Ignore -item 2-.
Installing
Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

t  Renew seals and gaskets.
t  Secure all screw joints with serial hose clips → Spare parts catalogue.
–  If a new exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- is fitted, perform adaption of zero position → Chapter.
