Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Puller - 10-203-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Extractor -3240-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench (5... 50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench (40... 200 Nm) -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Bolt M12×65

   
Removing
–  Remove sprocket from camshaft and high-pressure pump → Chapter.
–  Remove the camshaft wheel and the hub → Chapter.
–  Insert pressure element -3240/1- into cam shaft.
–  Loosen the inner element of the extractor -3240- two full turns (approx. 3 mm) and immobilise it with the knurled bolt.

–  Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor, place it in position and, exerting firm pressure, screw it into oil seal as far as possible.
–  Loosen the knurled bolt, and turn the inner element against the camshaft until the seal is removed.
Installing
  Note
Do not additionally lubricate or grease sealing lip of oil seal.
–  Remove the remains of any oil from the camshaft pivot using a clean cloth.

–  Fit the guide sleeve of the inlay tool -10 - 203- to the camshaft as shown in the figure.
–  Carefully install sealing ring-1- in cam shaft omitting guide sleeve.

–  Press sealing ring in to stop with aid of installation tool -10 - 203- and M12×1.5×75 bolt.
–  Install camshaft sprocket and hub → Chapter.
–  Install toothed belt and adjust the valve timing → Chapter.
