Coolant thermostat: Removing and installing, testing t  Removing → Anchor t  Fitting → Anchor t  Tightening torques → Anchor Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Pliers -VAS 6340-, see equivalent → Anchor

Removing –  Detach the outer -1- and inner -2- engine covers, by pulling them evenly upwards.   WARNING Observe safety precautions when disconnecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27. –  Disconnect earth wire at battery with ignition switched off.   WARNING Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.   Note First replace seals and gaskets. –  Drain coolant → Chapter –  Remove Poly V-belt → Chapter. –  Remove the alternator → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27 .

–  Disconnect the coolant hose -2- from the connection sleeve. –  Remove connector -1- on the coolant temperature sender -G83- at the radiator outlet. –  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and take connection sleeve out.

–  Turn the thermostat -2- approx. 90° (1/4 turn) anticlockwise -arrow-, and remove from connector sleeve. –  Remove O-ring -1-. Installing Fit in reverse order from removal, remembering the following:   Note Replace the O-ring. –  Clean and smooth sealing surface for O-ring as required. –  Moisten new O-ring -3- with coolant. l  Installation position: The thermostat retainer should be in a vertical position.

–  Fit the thermostat -3- to the connection sleeve -1- with a new O-ring -2-. l  Assembly position: the thermostat retainer must be in a vertical position as shown in the illustration.

–  Moisten the new O-ring -2- with coolant additive “G12+”. –  Turn the thermostat anticlockwise -arrow- approx. 90° (1/4 turn). –  Fill up coolant → Chapter. Tightening torques
