Cylinder head - Assembly overview
Cylinder head - Assembly overview
t  Order for loosening and tightening the rocker arm shafts bolts → Fig.
t  Spherical headed bolt for rocker arm shaft → Fig.
t  Cylinder head: Check for deformation → Fig.
t  Cylinder head identification → Fig.
   
1 - Upper protection element for the notched belt
2 - Notched belt
q   Mark direction of rotation before removing
q   Check for wear
q   Do not bend the belt
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
3 - 10 Nm
q   Replace.
4 - 25 Nm
5 - 100 Nm
q   Use locking spanner -T10051- to loosen and tighten → Chapter
6 - Cogwheel for timing belt
7 - Hub
q   With sender wheel for Hall sender -G40-
q   Use retention tool -T10051- to loosen and tighten
q   For removal use the extraction tool -T10052-
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
8 - Rear notched belt guard
9 - Sealing element
q   If this is damaged, replace it
10 - Hall sender -G40-
q   For the position of the crankshaft
q   To remove, unfasten sealing element → Item from rear of the notched belt guard
11 - Cylinder head bolt
q   Respect the loosening and tightening sequence → Chapter
q   Prior to installation, insert washers in cylinder head
12 - Fuel return line
13 - Fuel supply line
14 - Coolant liquid pipe
15 - Cylinder head cover:
q   With pressure regulating valve for engine block ventilation and vacuum tank.
q   Before fitting a new gasket, thoroughly clean the sealing groove and the bolts.
q   Before fitting, use clean cloth to thoroughly clean sealing surface of cylinder head
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
16 - Vacuum hose
q   To the tandem pump/servo brake union part
17 - Plug
q   Replace gasket if it shows signs of damage.
18 - To air intake hose air filter/turbocharger
19 - 10 Nm
q   Follow the correct tightening order → Chapter
20 - Cylinder head cover gasket
q   Replace if damaged
q   Before fitting a new gasket, thoroughly clean the sealing groove and the bolts.
q   Before fitting, seal the intermediate elements using “AMV 174 004 01” → ETKA (Electronic parts catalogue)
21 - 20 Nm
22 - Attachment rings
23 - Injectors-pump:
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
24 - 10 Nm
25 - Central connection
q   For injector-pump units
26 - of the brake servo
27 - Tandem pump:
q   For fuel feed and low pressure
q   check → Chapter
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
28 - Intake hose
q   From the fuel filter
q   White or white mark
q   Check for secure seating.
q   Immobilise with spring clips
29 - Return hose
q   To fuel filter
q   Blue or with blue marking
q   Check for secure seating.
q   Immobilise with spring clips
30 - Gasket
q   Replace.
31 - Support
32 - 25 Nm
33 - Cylinder head
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
q   After replacing, renew coolant completely
34 - Cylinder head gasket
q   Replace.
q   Note the identification → Fig.
q   After replacing, renew coolant completely
35 - Glow plug, 15 Nm
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
36 - Tensioning roller
37 - 20 Nm +45° (1/4 turn)
q   To avoid significant damage to the engine apply correct tightening torques

   
Order for loosening and tightening the rocker arm shafts bolts
  A23-0212
Spherical headed bolt for rocker arm shaft
–  Before fitting the rocker arm shaft, check if all of spherical head pins -1- and the O-rings -2- are fitted on the injector pump units.

Cylinder head: check for deformation
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Auxiliary ruler
t  Calibre
–  Use knife-edge and feeler gauge to measure cylinder head at several points.
l  permissible deformation: max. 0.1 mm
  Note
Diesel cylinder heads are not to be re-worked.

Cylinder head identification
t  Part No. = -Arrow 1-
t  Production code = -Arrow 2- (can be disregarded)
t  Holes = -Arrow 3-
  Note
Depending on the projection measurement of the pistons, gaskets of varying thickness are fitted → Chapter. If only the gasket is replaced, fit a new gasket with the same identification.
