Removing and installing the theft secured engine control unit
Removing and installing the theft secured engine control unit
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Pliers
–  To replace the engine control unit, connect the → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and initiate the guided function „Replacing control unit“.
Removing:
–  Switch ignition OFF.
–  Remove windscreen wiper arms → Electrical system; Rep. gr.92.
–  Remove plenum chamber cover → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.64.
–  Remove plenum chamber bulkhead → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50.
   
–  Raise engine control unit -1- in front area in -direction of arrow-.
–  Pull engine control unit forwards out of the side guides -2-.

–  Bend upwardly projecting tabs -1- of locking bar outwards.
–  Unscrew shear-head bolts -arrows- using a pair of pliers and remove locking bar -3-.

–  Slide connector locking devices -1- on engine control unit in -direction of arrow- and pull off both connectors.
Installing:
Tightening torque of securing nuts for retaining frame: 6 Nm
–  Attach connectors to engine control unit and slide locking devices inwards until they engage.

–  Screw on a new locking bar -3- with new shear-head bolts -2- and tighten bolts uniformly until just before heads shear off.
Ignore position -1-.

–  Push engine control unit -1- into side guides -2- in the -direction of arrow-.
–  Install plenum chamber bulkhead → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50.
–  Install plenum chamber cover → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.64.
–  Install windscreen wiper arms → Electrical system; Rep. gr.92.
