Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spanner -U-40082-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench kit -SAT 8010-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Adapter -VAG 1381/12-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Compression tester -VAG 1763-, see equivalent → Anchor

   
t  Central diagnosis -VAS 5051B- or central diagnosis -VAS 5052A-, see equivalent → Anchor
Test condition
l  Engine oil temperature at least. 30 ℃
Checking sequence
  W00-10343
Engine code letters BJB, BKC, BXE, BXF
–  Pull the oil dipstick -1- out of the guide tube.
–  Lift the engine cover by the sides -arrows 2- and pull it out forwards -arrow 3-.
–  Replace the oil dipstick in the guide tube.

Select engine identification letters BLS
–  First remove the outer cover -1- and then the inner cover -2- upwards equally.
Continued for all vehicles
  E10-10038
–  Release the connector -arrow 1- and unscrew knurled nut -arrow 2-.
–  Disconnect the central connection for the pump injectors.
  A23-0231
–  Remove the connector support from the glow plugs -arrow-
–  Unscrew the glow plugs using spark plug spanner -U-40082-.
  A28-0068
–  Screw in the adaptor -VAG 1381/12- in the place of the glow plugs.
–  Check compression with the compression tester -VAG 1763-.
  Note
Using the compression tester → Operating instructions.
–  Operate starter until pressure reading on tester no longer rises.

–  Fit the glow plugs using spark plug spanner -U-40082- to 15 Nm.
–  Consult the event memory vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- or vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5052A-.
  Note
When the central connection for the pump injectors is removed, this is recorded by the fault memory. Therefore, read event memory and delete if necessary.
