t  Engine code letters BJB, BKC, BXE, BXF → Anchor
t  Select engine identification letters BLS → Anchor
t  Order for loosening and tightening the rocker arm shafts bolts → Fig.
t  Spherical headed bolt for rocker arm shaft → Fig.
t  Cylinder head: check for deformation → Fig.
t  Cylinder head identification → Fig.
Engine code letters BJB, BKC, BXE, BXF
   
1 - Upper protection element for the notched belt
2 - Notched belt
q   Mark direction of rotation before removing.
q   Check for wear
q   Do not kink
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
3 - 10 Nm
q   Replace
4 - 25 Nm
5 - 100 Nm
q   Use locking spanner -T10051- to loosen and tighten → Chapter
6 - Cogwheel for timing belt
7 - Hub
q   With sender wheel for Hall sender -G40-
q   Use counterhold tool -T10051- to loosen and tighten.
q   To remove, use puller -T10052A-.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
8 - Toothed belt cover (rear)
9 - Sleeve
q   Replace if damaged
10 - Hall sender -G40-
q   For camshaft position.
q   To remove, unfasten sealing element → Item from rear of the notched belt guard
11 - Head bolts, 15 Nm
12 - Cylinder head bolt
q   Observe sequence when loosening and tightening → Chapter.
q   Prior to installation, insert washers in cylinder head
13 - Fuel return line
14 - Fuel supply line
15 - Coolant line
16 - Cylinder head cover
q   Before fitting, clean thoroughly the seal surface of the cylinder head using a clean cloth
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
17 - Pressure limiting valve
q   For engine block ventilation pre-heater
18 - To turbocharger
19 - Sealing plug
q   Replace gasket if it shows signs of damage.
20 - Sealing washer
q   Replace if damaged
21 - 10 Nm
q   Observe tightening sequence → Chapter.
22 - Cylinder head cover gasket
q   Only replace along with the cylinder head cover
q   Before fitting, seal the intermediate elements using „AMV 174 004 01“ → Electronic parts catalogue
23 - 20 Nm
24 - Attachment rings
25 - Injectors-pump:
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
26 - 10 Nm
27 - Central connection
q   For injector-pump units
28 - of the brake servo
29 - Tandem pump:
q   For fuel feed and low pressure
q   Checking → Chapter
q   Internal sealing: checking → Chapter
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
30 - Intake hose
q   From fuel filter
q   White or with white marking.
q   Check for secure seating.
q   Immobilise with spring clips
31 - Return hose
q   To fuel filter
q   Blue or with blue marking.
q   Check for secure seating.
q   Immobilise with spring clips
32 - Seal
q   Replace
33 - Spring retainer
34 - 20 Nm
35 - Cylinder head
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Renew coolant after replacing.
36 - Cylinder head gasket
q   Replace
q   Note marking → Fig..
q   Renew coolant after replacing.
37 - Glow plug, 15 Nm
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
38 - Tensioning roller
q   Please consider that when replacing the toothed belt tensioning rollers, that the engine bearing and large engine support also have to be removed.
39 - 20 Nm + 45° (1/4 turn)
q   Use the correct tightening torque to avoid damages to the engine.

Select engine identification letters BLS
   
1 - Upper protection element for the notched belt

q   For removal use the extraction tool -T10052A-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter

q   To remove, unfasten sealing element → Item from rear of the notched belt guard
11 - Cylinder head bolt
q   Observe sequence when loosening and tightening → Chapter.

q   With pressure regulating valve for engine block ventilation and vacuum tank.
q   Before fitting a new gasket, thoroughly clean the sealing groove and the bolts.
q   Before fitting, clean thoroughly the seal surface of the cylinder head using a clean cloth
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
16 - Vacuum hose
q   To the tandem pump/servo brake union part
17 - Sealing plug
q   Replace gasket if it shows signs of damage.
18 - To air intake hose air filter/turbocharger
19 - 10 Nm
q   Observe tightening sequence → Chapter.
20 - Cylinder head cover gasket
q   Replace if damaged
q   Before fitting a new gasket, thoroughly clean the sealing groove and the bolts.
q   Before fitting, seal the intermediate elements using „AMV 174 004 01“ → Electronic parts catalogue
21 - 20 Nm

Order for loosening and tightening the rocker arm shafts bolts
  A23-0212
Spherical headed bolt for rocker arm shaft
–  Before fitting the rocker arm shaft, check if all of spherical head pins -1- and the O-rings -2- are fitted on the injector pump units.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Auxiliary ruler
t  Feeler gauge
–  Use knife-edge and feeler gauge to measure cylinder head at several points.
l  Permissible distortion, max. 0.1 mm.
  Note
Reworking diesel cylinder heads is not permissible.

Identification of cylinder head gasket
t  Part No. = -Arrow 1-
t  Production code = -Arrow 2- (can be disregarded)
t  Holes = -Arrow 3-
  Note
Cylinder head gaskets of different thicknesses are fitted depending on the amount of piston projection → Chapter. When renewing gasket, install new gasket with same identification.
