Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench kit -SAT 8010-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Sealant -AMV 174 004 01- → Electronic parts catalogue

Removing
Engine code letters BJB, BKC, BXE, BXF
–  Pull the oil dipstick -1- out of the guide tube.
–  Lift the engine cover by the sides -arrows 2- and pull it out forwards -arrow 3-.
–  Replace the oil dipstick in the guide tube.
  Note
The coolant hose -1- and fuel pipes -2- and -3- must remain connected.

–  Unplug the connectors -1 ... 3- from the air duct.
–  Remove air duct by lifting retaining clips -arrows- slightly.

–  Remove the upper protection for the notched belt, to do this, release the attachment clips -arrow-.
–  Disconnect hose for crankcase breather system at air pipe.

–  Unscrew the bolts for the cylinder head cover in the sequence -13 … 1-.
–  Remove cylinder head cover.

Select engine identification letters BLS
–  First remove the outer cover -1- and then the inner cover -2- upwards equally.

–  Extract deaeration gas hose -1-.

–  Release the fuel and coolant hoses from their fittings on the air duct.
–  Remove bolt -1-.
–  Remove air duct by lifting retaining clips -arrows- slightly.
–  Separate the flexible vacuum hose in the cylinder head cover → Item.
–  Remove the electrical harness from the brackets and move to one side.

–  Remove the upper protection for the notched belt, to do this, release the attachment clips -arrow-.

–  Unscrew the bolts for the cylinder head cover in the sequence -13 … 1-.
–  Remove cylinder head cover.
Installing
Continue the installation in the reverse order of removal sequence, observing the following:

t  If there is damage, replace the gasket and the cylinder head bolts.
t  Seal the intermediate parts with sealant -AMV 174 004 01- → Electronic parts catalogue.

–  Apply one dropof sealant -AMV 174 004 01- → Electronic Parts Catalogue) (Ø about 5 mm -arrows -onto both sealing surface ends of the bearing cap / cylinder head at the front.

–  Apply one dropof sealant -AMV 174 004 01- → Electronic Parts Catalogue) (Ø about 5 mm -arrows -onto both sealing surface ends of the bearing cap / cylinder head at the rear.

Engine code letters BJB, BKC, BXE, BXF
–  Tighten cylinder head cover bolts in the sequence -1 … 13- to a torque of 10 Nm.
–  Install upper toothed belt guard.

Select engine identification letters BLS
–  Manually fasten the bolts for the cylinder head cover in the sequence -1 … 13-.
–  Tighten cylinder head cover bolts in the sequence -1 … 13- to a torque of 10 Nm.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Install upper toothed belt guard.
