Exhaust system: checking seal > < Installation position and tightening torque of the clamping sleeve

Exhaust system: install free of tension
Exhaust system: install free of tension
l  The exhaust system must be installed cold.
–  Loosen the screw joint of the clamping sleeve between the catalytic converter and the intermediate silencer.
   
–  Release the bolted connectors -3 and 4- from the front clamp-1-.
–  Align the front clamp -1- with mark -A- on the exhaust pipe before the catalytic converter -2- (the -arrow- shows the driving direction).
l  Dimension -a- = → Fig.
l  The bolted connectors must be on the right and must not project over the lower edge of the clamp.
–  Manually tighten the front bolted connector -3- on the clamp.

–  Push the rear silencer forwards and insert into the clamping sleeve until the dimension -a- is reached with 15 ... 17 mm between the suspension / bodywork and the suspension element / rear silencer. The -arrow- points forwards.
–  Align the rear silencer in a horizontal position.
–  In this position, tighten the bolts of the clamping sleeve. Tightening torque → Chapter
–  After tightening the clamping sleeve, check the dimension -a- and correct if necessary.
Align the end pipes:
  N26-10011
–  Align the secondary silencer so that there is an equal distance -a- and -b- between the indentation passage in the rear bumper and the end pipes.
–  To centre the end tubes, loosen the secondary silencer suspension, if necessary.
