Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque spanner kit -SAT 8010-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Tappet -T10088-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Spanner -T20203-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Extractor -T20143-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Tray -T20173-, see equivalent → Anchor

Removing the left flanged shaft seal
The seals may be changed while the gear box is mounted.
  Note
t  Cleaning norms when working on automatic gearbox → Chapter.
t  General repair instructions → Chapter.
–  Remove left articulated shaft: → Running gear, shafts, steering; Rep. Gr.40.
–  Fit the tray -T20173- beneath gearbox.
   
–  Unscrew the attachment bolt arrow from the left hand side insert shaft using the spanner -T20203-. Do this by tightening two screws on the flange and holding the shaft with a lever.
–  The bolt must be replaced.
–  Remove flanged shaft together with compression spring.

–  Remove sealing ring with adapter -T20143/2-.
Fitting the left flanged shaft seal
Install in reverse order. The following must be taken into account:
–  Lightly lubricate outer edge of new seal.
  E39-10005
–  Fit new seal as far as it will go using tappet -T10088-.
  E39-0221
–  Fill space between sealing lip and dustcap -arrow- with sealing grease → Parts catalogue.
–  Insert the flanged shaft pushing against the spring and fix with a new bolt.
–  Remove left articulated shaft: → Running gear, shafts, steering; Rep. Gr.40.
Check and replace gear oil → Chapter.
