Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque spanner kit -SAT 8010-, see equivalent → Anchor
  L00-10226
t  Tray -T20173-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Protection glasses
l  Engine off.
  WARNING
If the oil sump has been removed or if gear oil is needed, do not start the engine or tow the vehicle.
  Note
t  Cleaning norms when working on automatic gearbox → Chapter.
t  General repair instructions → Chapter.
t  Moisten the O-rings and seals with gear oil. Other lubricants may cause malfunctions in the hydraulic control of the gearbox
t  The following operations are performed with the gear still fitted in the vehicle. If we need to remove the mecatronic unit for the DSG automatic gearbox -J743- the gearbox should be supported on the assembly frame → Chapter.

  WARNING
Take all the necessary precautionary measures when connecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27

–  With ignition switched off, connect earth connection-arrow-to battery → electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.
–  Remove oil sump → Chapter.
–  Touch the vehicle earth with the hand (without gloves) to release static energy.
  WARNING
The person who is going to touch or remove the mecatronic unit for the DSG automatic gearbox -J743- should first release static energy by touching an earthed object, e.g. the vehicle earth.
The gearbox connector contacts should never be touched with the hands, as this may damage the control unit and, therefore, the Mecatronic unit as a result of a discharge of static energy

–  Unblock (using a small screwdriver) -1- the connector gear input rating transmitter -G182-with the multi-disc clutch oil temperature transmitter -G509- and remove it by carefully levering with a second screwdriver-2-.
  Note
Never pull on the connector cable. If the cable is damaged, the hybrid sensor -G182, G93- must be replaced. → Chapter
–  Release the connector cable from the clips -arrows- located in the mecatronic unit for the DSG automatic gearbox -J743-.

–  Unscrew the attachment bolts-1- to -10- in the indicated order.
–  The bolts must be replaced.

–  Remove the mecatronic unit for the DSG automatic gearbox -J743- from the gearbox casing until the sensor arm -B- upon the back is removed from the casing.
Take special care with the long “sensor arm”.
–  Remove the DSG automatic gear mecatronic system -J743- by turning it downwards.

–  Correctly place the DSG automatic gear mecatronic system -J743- as indicated in the figure.
  Caution
Never lift the DSG automatic gear mecatronic system -J743- by the “long” sensor arm (and never leave it resting on said sensor).
If the “long” sensor arm is damaged then the DSG automatic gear mecatronic system has to be replaced -J743-.
DSG automatic gear mecatronic system -J743-: fitting
Installation is carried out in reverse order, noting the following:
–  Install the mecatronic unit for the DSG automatic gearbox -J743--C- without forcing.
  Note
t  When installing the mecatronic unit for the DSG automatic gearbox -J743- take care not to trap the connector cable -A-. If the cable is damaged, the hybrid sensor -G182, G93- must be replaced.
t  Do not damage the long sender that goes in the rear section of the mecatronic unit for the DSG automatic gearbox -J743-.
  N34-10528
–  Tighten bolts -1- to -10- by hand.
–  Tighten bolts -1- to -10- (in this order) to 5 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn).
–  Attach cable to clips -arrows-.
–  Attach connector -A-.
–  Clean the gasket and seal surfaces and remove all traces of oil.
–  Replace the O-rings -B- of the 20 contact connector of the mecatronic unit for the DSG automatic gearbox -J743-.
–  Moisten the O-rings -B-with gear oil.
–  Fit the oil sump → Chapter.
–  Fit the battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.
–  Take all the necessary precautionary measures after connecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27
–  Fill with gear oil → Chapter
–  Make the basic adjustment using the central diagnosis -VAS 5051B- or central diagnosis -VAS 5052-.
