  Note!
t  After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary, so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
t  After work for which the brake system had to be opened, bleed the brake system with brake charge and bleed system -VAS 5234- or extraction unit -V.A.G 1869/4-.
t  Before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose, fit brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2- (release pressure in system).
   
1 - Hexagon bolt, 270 Nm
q   M18 x 1.5 x 48
2 - Drive shaft
q   With rotor for speed sensor
3 - Wheel bearing housing
4 - Hexagon bolt, 10 Nm
5 - ABS speed sensor
q   Before inserting sensor, clean fitting hole inner surface and coat with lubricating paste G 000 650
6 - Allen head bolt, 10 Nm
7 - Cover plate
8 - Brake disc
q   Brake disc thickness: 26 mm.
q   Wear limit: 22 mm.
q   Internally ventilated brake disc: Ø 313 mm.
q   When worn, always renew on both sides of axle.
q   Never remove brake discs from hub by force. If necessary use penetrating fluid, because otherwise brake discs can be damaged.
9 - Hexagon bolt
10 - Allen bolt, 10 Nm
11 - Brake carrier
q   Supplied as replacement part, assembled with sufficient grease on guide pins.
q   If protective caps are damaged, use repair kit
q   Use grease sachet supplied to lubricate guide pins.
12 - Retaining spring
13 - Brake caliper
q   Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads.
q   Removing:
q   Remove brake pads → Chapter.
q   Insert brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2- (and relieve pressure).
q   Unscrew brake hose → Item from brake caliper
q   Installing:
q   Insralling brake pads → Chapter.
q   Connect brake hose → Item to brake caliper.
q   Remove brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2-.
q   Bleed brake system → Chapter.
q   Repairing → Chapter.
14 - Brake pads
q   Thickness 14 mm not including backplate.
q   Brake pad with retaining spring is seated on piston
q   When wear reaches a predetermined limit (approx 4 mm) the warning lamp in dash panel insert comes on.
q   Brake pad with adhesive film on backplate is seated on outer side
q   Wear limit: 2 mm not including backplate.
q   Checking thickness → Booklet10.1.
q   Always renew both sides.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
15 - Connector
q   When changing pads, remove from bracket → Item.
16 - Guide pin, 30 Nm
17 - Cover cap
18 - Cable bracket
19 - Hexagon bolt, 10 Nm
20 - Brake line, 14 Nm
q   With retaining spring.
21 - Bracket
22 - Hexagon bolt, 10 Nm
23 - Brake hose
