Removing and installing radiator
Removing and installing radiator
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Catch pan for workshop crane -VAS 6208-
t  Pliers for spring strap clamps
Removing
–  Remove front bumper → Body Work → Rep. Gr.63
  Note
Collect drained coolant in a clean container for proper disposal or reuse.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
   
–  Disconnect plug -1- from thermo-switch -F18- and separate plug connection -2- at the fan shroud.
–  Separate the coolant hose from the radiator at the top and bottom -3- of the connection fittings.
  Note
On vehicles without air conditioning, the radiator cannot be replaced separately without the radiator fan.
For vehicles with air conditioning
–  Remove front headlights → Electrical System → Rep. Gr.94.
Remove screw (in the top fan shroud), which fastens the pipe holder of the AC system line.

–  Screw out screws -arrows- and take out fan shroud downwards.
  WARNING
Do not open the refrigerant circuit of the air conditioning system.
  Note
t  Do not suspend the condenser to the wires.
t  Do not fold the condenser wires.

–  Release the bolts securing the condenser -arrows-.
–  Remove screw for bracket of condenser wire at the bottom from radiator.
–  Suspend or support condenser in such a way that the radiator is not damaged when installing.
For all vehicles
–  Remove screws for radiator bearing → Chapter
–  Push radiator towards engine and take out downwards.
Install
Installation is performed in the reverse order, pay attention to the following points:

Replace gasket rings and O-rings.
