Fault table
Fault table
  Note
t  As the control units are interlinked over two data Bus lines, start the fault finding by initiating the function 00 “automatic test sequence”. This allows to interrogate all the control units fitted on the vehicle to determine their possible faults.
t  Before replacing acomponent fault to be faulty test all corresponding plug connections, lines and earth connection according to the current flow diagram → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations.
t  After repair always interrogate the fault memory using vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- and erase the memory. Then perform a test drive (at a speed above 20 km/h). After the test drive interrogate the fault memory again.
t  If -V.A.G 1552 -“Info. in literature” appears in the display of the vehicle system tester, look for the text required in the fault table under the fault code.
t  Below is a list of all possible faults detected by the four-wheel drive control unit -J492- and displayed on -V.A.G 1552 -, arranged according to their 5-digit fault code.

Readout on -V.A.G 1552-Possible cause of faultRectifying fault
No fault detected If after repair “No fault detected” is displayed, the self-diagnosis is completed.
If the Haldex coupling does not operate without fault in spite of display read-out “No fault detected”, proceed as follows:
1. Perform a test drive at a speed above 20 km/h.
2. Interrogate the fault memory again, if still “No fault detected” is stored.
3. Run through the Electrical Test completely → Chapter.
