t  Catch pan for workshop crane, e.g. -VAS 6208-
t  Pliers for spring strap clamps
t  Refractomer -T10007-
Draining
  Note
t  Collect drained coolant in a clean container for reuse or proper disposal.
t  Observe the disposal instructions.
  WARNING
Hot steam may escape when the coolant compensation bottle is opened. Wear safety goggles and safety clothing, in order to avoid eye injuries and scalding. Cover the cap with a cloth and open carefully.
–  Open the cap of the coolant expansion reservoir.
–  Remove noise insulation → Body Work → Rep. Gr.50.
   
–  Open spring strap clips -arrow- with spring strap clips and push back.
–  Unplug the coolant hose from the fitting.

Observe the disposal instructions for coolant!
Filling up
  Note
Replace O-rings.
–  Connect coolant hose at bottom of radiator.
–  Select the appropriate coolant additive from the → electronic catalogue of original parts or from the list of allowed coolant additives → Octavia II.
–  In a clean reservoir mix water and coolant additive in the correct mixing ratio → Octavia II.

–  Fill up coolant up to max. marking on the expansion reservoir.
–  Seal expansion reservoir.
–  Switch off the air-conditioning system and the heating.
Vehicles without auxiliary heating.
–  Start the engine and maintain the engine revolutions for about 3 minutes at about 2000 r.p.m.
–  Run engine until radiator fan -V7- starts.
Vehicles with auxiliary heating.
  Caution
The auxiliary heating must only be switched on, if the cooling circuit -as described below- is filled up.
–  Connect the Vehicle diagnosis system, measurement and information system -VAS 5051B-.
–  Start the engine and maintain the engine revolutions for about 3 minutes at about 2000 r.p.m.
–  On the display press consecutively the buttons for “Vehicle self-diagnosis”,“18 - Auxiliary heating system” and “005 - Actuator diagnosis”.
–  On the display press the right arrow button up to the actuator diagnosis of the coolant shut-off valve of heating system - N279-.
–  Initiate the actuator diagnosis for the coolant shut-off valve of heating system -N279- and maintain the speed at 2000 rpm for about 1 minute.
–  Continue to run engine until radiator fan -V7- starts.
Continued for all vehicles

–  Check coolant level when the expansion reservoir is closed.
l  When engine is at operating temperature the coolant level must be at the max. marking, when engine is cold between the min. and the max. markings.
  WARNING

–  Top up coolant if necessary.
–  Install the noise insulation → Body Work → Rep. Gr.50.
