Removing
–  Remove engine cover with air filter → Chapter.
   
–  Separate the bellows -1- (if present) from the air guide -2-.
–  Release both catches and remove the air guide -2-.

–  Unscrew the hot air collector/shield -arrows-.

–  Unscrew the pre-catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold -arrows-.
–  Remove noise insulation → Body Work → Rep. Gr.50.
  Note
The decoupling element in the pre-catalytic converter should not be bent by more than 30° - danger of damaging it.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows-.
–  Unbolt the nut -1- from the bracket of exhaust manifold/gearbox. Remove the bracket.
–  Secure pre-catalytic converter against falling down.

–  Unscrew the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head -arrows-.
–  Remove the exhaust manifold and the gasket from above.
Install
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Pay attention to the following:
t  Replace the gaskets and the self-locking nuts.
t  Coat threaded pins at cylinder head lightly with hot screw paste -G 052 112 A3-.
t  Observe tightening order when fastening the pre-catalytic converter → Fig..
