Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand vacuum pump, e.g. -V.A.S 6213-
t  Adapter -V.A.G 1318/17-
t  Adapter for K-Jetronic tester -V.A.G 1318/20-1-
Test condition
l  The ignition must be switched off.
Test sequence
   
–  Detach vent line -1-. To do so press in the securing ring.

–  Then connect the hand vacuum pump -V.A.S 6213--1- on the vent line -2- as shown.
–  Operate the hand vacuum pump -V.A.S 6213- several times.
l  No vacuum should build up.
If a vacuum builds up.
–  Check the air admission fitting on the activated charcoal filter for dirt and clean as required.
If no vacuum builds up:
  N20-10238
–  Shut off air admission fitting -arrow- and once again operate the vacuum pump several times. A vacuum should build up.
If no vacuum builds up:
–  Replace activated charcoal filter.
