| The engine identification characters and the engine number are located to the left on the joint separating the engine/gearbox. |
| The engine number consists of up to nine digits (alphanumeric). The first part represents the “engine code” (maximum 3 identification letters), the second (the six part section) the “serial number”. If more than 999.999 engines with the same engine code were produced then the first digit of the six part section will be replaced by a letter. |
| In addition, a sticker with the “engine identification character” and “serial number” is affixed to the top cover for timing chain. |
