The engine number consists of up to nine digits (alphanumeric). The first part represents the “engine code” (a maximum of 3 identification letters), the second part the “serial number”. If more than 999.999 engines with the same engine code were produced then the first digit of the six part section will be replaced by a letter.
In addition, a sticker with the “engine identification character” and “serial number” is affixed to the toothed belt guard.
