Octavia Mk2 Engine Oil Cooler Replacement Guide

Removing and installing engine oil cooler
Removing and installing engine oil cooler
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Catch pan, e.g. -VAS 6208-
t  Old oil collecting and suction equipment, e.g. -V.A.G 1782-
t  Pliers for spring strap clamps
Removing
–  Remove engine cover → Chapter.
–  Draining coolant:
t  Fabia II, Roomster, Rapid → Chapter.
t  Octavia II, Superb II, Yeti → Chapter.
–  Remove air filter housing:
t  Fabia II, Roomster, Rapid → Chapter.
t  Octavia II, Superb II, Yeti → Chapter.
   
–  Remove oil filter insert -3-:
t  → BookletFabia II.
t  → BookletRoomster.
t  → BookletOctavia II.
t  → BookletSuperb II.
t  → BookletYeti.
t  → BookletRapid.

–  Release screws -arrows-.
–  Take the engine oil cooler out of the housing.
Install
Installation is performed in the reverse order, pay attention to the following points:
  Note
t  Replace gaskets, gasket rings and O-rings.
t  Hose connections as well as charge air pipes and charge air hoses must be free of oil and grease before being installed.
t  The hose connections are secured with spring-type clips. In the event of repairs only use spring-type clips.

–  Insert new gaskets Pos. 8 → Chapter-1- in the supports of the oil filter holder.
–  Carefully position the engine oil cooler onto the dowel sleeves.

–  Push the engine oil cooler on the ends of the dowel sleeves -1-.
–  Insert new screws and screw in up to the stop.

–  Tighten the screws -arrows- crosswise in 3 stages:
  N17-10204
1st stage: only tighten by hand
2nd stage: 5 Nm
3rd stage: 11 Nm

–  Install oil filter insert, fill with engine oil and check the oil level:
t  → BookletFabia II.
t  → BookletRoomster.
t  → BookletOctavia II.
t  → BookletSuperb II.
t  → BookletYeti.
t  → BookletRapid.
–  Top up or change coolant if the engine oil cooler was replaced:
t  Fabia II, Roomster, Rapid → Chapter.
t  Octavia II, Superb II, Yeti → Chapter.
