t  Body saw e.g. -V.A.G 1523 A -
t  Protective goggles
  Note
t  For individually replacing the front or rear silencer, a separation point is provided in the connecting pipe.
t  The separation point is marked by indentations on the circumference of the exhaust pipe.
t  Observe safety measures and rules for cleanliness when working on vehicles with liquefied petroleum gas system (LPG) → Chapter.
Work procedure
  WARNING
In order to avoid injuries because of metal swarfs, wear safety goggles and safety clothing.
   
–  Separate the exhaust pipe at right angles at the separation point -arrow 2- with body saw.
–  When installing, position rear clamping sleeve -4- at the side markings -arrow 1- and -arrow 3-.
–  Turn the rear clamping sleeve -4- in such a way that the ends of the screws are as far upwards as possible.
–  Align rear silencer horizontally and tighten rear clamping sleeve -4- to 23 Nm.
–  Align exhaust system in cold condition free of stress → Chapter.
